What We Do

We exclusively represent breeders

United Exports, through its wholly owned subsidiary OZVarieties, has partnered with and invested in a leading number of breeding programmes.

Blueberries

Dave and Leasa Mazzardis – the founders, owners and pioneering plant breeders of Natures Select – created the class-leading OZblu® genetics, and continue to lead the way in the area of evergreen blueberry varieties. United Exports jointly owns the blueberry breeding programme, putting the company in a unique and enviable position within the blueberry marketplace.

Stone Fruit

United Exports holds a master licence for the leading OZPeach low-chill varieties for Southern Africa and the Americas, a master licence for Burchell’s stone fruit varieties in South African territories, and an exclusive licence for the low-chill cherry programme – from renowned Cherry breeder Steve Southwich – for South Africa.

Nuts

United Exports holds a master licence for Burchell’s almond breeding programme, which includes the highly successful Shasta variety.

We Are Growers

Production determines the commercial value of our product. Our growers must produce a consistent marketable fruit that our clients and ultimately their customer, the product consumer, wants. For this reason alone, we place paramount importance on the knowledge and success of our growers.

What’s more, production is the revenue engine that allows us the opportunity to reinvest and provide a positive impact on the environment and society.  Being a grower is a responsibility that we accept wholeheartedly, therefore we have a focused strategy on sustainability and the environment.

We Ensure Grower Success

Food safety and quality is a non-negotiable when dealing with a fresh commodity. The industry is well known for the various compliance accreditations required. In order to deliver on this, United Exports not only embraces compliance but instils it into our farms’ DNA.

WE ARE PROCESSORS

Packing and processing are key for the several commodities we manage. While many commodities are packed on the grower’s farm, a number of commodities require careful management of the cold chain – not only to ensure quality but also to ensure that the product is fresh when it reaches the consumer and delivers on the expected shelf life.

Packing centrally allows the quality of our fruit to be centrally monitored and the fruit specification for the destined customer to be assured. Finally, efficiency of scale allows packing to be done at an optimum price point; this ensures ongoing business sustainability downstream in the value chain.

We have a global team of committed and experienced talent based in seven continents. They service our global clients with a single interface in order to successfully deliver on their programmes.

Our commercial function is led out of Europe. We have a “Customer Side” team in market and a “Grower Side” team in each of our production markets.  Based in our agri-hub of Paarl, South Africa, we have a global in-sourced services team for all of our markets.
